Jamilla Parris

I have known Jamilla for close to three years. I admire her dedication, hard work (sometimes till late in the evenings), and devotion as a senior level teacher.
She takes care of her students and spends a lot of time to tutor them to the best of her ability. Her lessons are captivating and students always look forward to her classes. Because of her dedication and patience to this profession, Jamilla’s students have improved at an advanced rate.
Jamilla takes her work very seriously. She quietly and carefully prepares excellent lessons for each day. She’s exceptionally great as a writing-and-reading teacher. She has this tremendous and interesting way of motivating her students to use their imagination when writing their beautiful essays. She often rewards her students when they hand in work of a very high standard.
In her reading lessons, she captivates her students under the umbrella of Reading Power. Her students are very comfortable using connections, questioning and inferring. She demonstrates useful teaching methods that other teachers can learn from. She believes in experimenting with new techniques to enrich her teaching methods and in this way earns the respect of her colleagues.
Jamilla also wrapped her arms around learning Chinese and understanding the culture in which she lives, communicating with the bilingual teachers. She has taken the initiative to get to know her fellow Chinese teachers and local shop owners.
She is a strategic thinker, planning grand, detailed events with her fellow ESL teachers for students to deepen the knowledge of the lessons.
She is a stern disciplinarian and a stickler for homework and assignment completion.
She works so hard. Almost every night, she is the last one to leave the office. I always make a joke with her “why are you still here? Go home and have some rest”! But she replies to me with a smile “I want to prepare more for tomorrow”.
That is Jamilla. She is an excellent ESL teacher who pays much more attention to teaching. She is a good learner to study Chinese. She is a friend with her kindness.

我认识Jamilla老师快三年了。我钦佩她的辛勤工作(有时工作到深夜)，钦佩她的奉献精神，更钦佩她的敬业与对于教育事业的执着。

她的学生有小学的最高级别——七级和八级，更有高年级的低级别。每周她都会辅导学生，并花大量时间来提升孩子们听、说、读、写各方面的语言能力。在她的帮助下，学生们的学业突飞猛进。

Jamilla对待她的工作非常认真，她潜心地备好每一节课。作为一名英语写作老师，她独具匠心。在她的课堂上，原本枯燥的英文写作，变成了孩子们最喜欢的课型之一，孩子们奇思妙想，天马行空。在习作鉴赏课上，她让小作者自己来朗读作文，全班同学认真倾听，听众们时而投来赞许的目光，时而发出赞叹，时而给予热烈的掌声，就这样小作者们都收到莫大的鼓舞，渐渐地，这样的小作者越来越多，孩子们的作文也越写越长，越写越有趣，写作课成了孩子们最期待的课。

阅读课上，她用提问的方式启发学生们思考，运用联系、提问和推理等阅读技巧，给他们打开思考大门的钥匙。这样，阅读不再是读者被动的接受文本，而是帮助孩子们和书本对话。在她的公开课上，她尝试新点子，放手让学生展示，成功地向其他老师示范不同的教学方法，也因此赢得了同事们的尊重。

除了工作外，Jamilla老师还热爱生活。她经常与中方老师们交流，学习中文，了解中国的文化。她主动去认识、了解中方同事们，更结识了许多朋友。
她不断思考教学策略。她可以与孩子们一起策划各类课堂活动，她的课堂很自由；她也会对作业提出明确要求，并严格执行，没有按要求完成作业，会有相应的惩罚。

她对待工作，总是勤奋认真。每天晚上，她都是最后一个离开办公室的人，经常和她开玩笑说的最多的一句话就是“你怎么还在这里？”，而她总是微笑着对我说，“我想为明天的课再多做些准备”。
这就是Jamilla，一位对于工作一丝不苟的外教，一名对于自我学习永不止步的老师，一位对于同事和善有爱的朋友。
