在实践和认识的跨越中提升课堂教学——记4.0版启智课堂实践活动之英语大课堂展示

       On October 26, 2019, the “4.0 Version” English Demo Classes of Maple Leaf Educational School District – Hubei was held in Wuhan campus.

20191026日,湖北大区各部门领导及ESL全体中外教师共约130人齐聚武汉第一校区阶梯教室,举行“4.0版启智课堂实践活动”之英语大课堂展示活动。


After the video “Why Did You Become a Teacher” kicked off the activity, next came the poem recitation of “I Am a Teacher Because…” by the ESL directors. Afterwards, the dancing “Good Time” and singing “To Teach You” brought the opening show to climax.

一段由张倩老师制作的视频Why Did You Become a Teacher”拉开了本次活动的序幕。紧接着,六位英语主任为大家带来了双语诗朗诵《我是一名老师》,情深意切,字字铿锵。随后,由甘义老师和外教Kevin领舞、中外男老师伴舞的舞蹈Good Time和外教Jocelyn改编的英文歌曲To Teach You将表演推向了高潮。

Hosted by Iris and Ted, there were three demo classes, and three rounds of comments for the activity. Lulu Hu and Tony Johnson from Wuhan Maple Leaf, and Shirley Huang from Jingzhou Maple Leaf taught the demo classes in turns.

本次活动分为课堂观摩、名师评课、互动点评、专家评课四个环节,由邢莹莹老师和外教Ted Vanderstoop主持。先后由武汉小学胡晓璐、武汉高中外教Tony Johnson、荆州初中黄雪君三位老师进行授课。

In Lulu’s reading and STEAM demo class of “The Thirsty Crow”, she took advantage of the “problem and solution” skill and experiments to guide students of finding the solution to drink water. Besides stones, all the materials in the nature were open to students to do the experiment for unfixed answers.

在胡晓璐老师的阅读和STEAM课型展示课《口渴的乌鸦》中,她运用“问题与解决办法技巧和实验的形式,让学生自主探索,寻找让乌鸦喝到水的办法。在原版寓言里,乌鸦是通过扔石头喝到水的,可是如果没有石头呢?胡老师没有限制学生的思维,而是创设情景引导学生利用其它材料如树枝、树叶、果子、泥土进行小组讨论和实验,得到不同的解决方案。在这样开放和多元的课堂里,学生的动手和思维能力得到了很大提升。

In Tony’s listening and speaking class, he taught students how to describe details with the 5Ws by reinforcing the scaffolding strategy. Exampled by Tony’s life experience and self-introduction, students learnt how to use the supporting details to describe properly.

外教Tony老师为我们带来的是一节以细节描述为内容的听说课。他以自己在911事件中逃生的经历,向学生们强调了细节描述的重要性。随后,通过脚手架式教学策略和5W法,把复杂的学习任务加以分解,一步步引导学生们描述憨豆先生的故事,从而掌握细节描述的方法和能力。

“Mr. Peabody’s Apples” was the story in Shirley’s reading class with the topic of “inferring”. Before reading, she led in the reading strategy of making inferences through a detective game. Students were asked to do the group inferences on the story development and moral and act them out at the climax so as to sublimate the theme – the power of the words.

黄雪君老师教授的是课外绘本故事Mr. Peabody’s Apples”。阅读前,她以侦探游戏引出推测力的概念,然后让学生们以接力的形式进行朗读。在故事的高潮部分,黄老师给学生关键线索和道具,让他们自由发挥想象推测故事的发展和寓意,再辅以视频,进而升华到本节课的主题——语言的力量,达到枫叶英语课堂不仅是教授英语语言知识本身,更是教导学生如何成为一个“完整的人”的理念。

Group leaders Lee Gan, Tony Jiang, and Michelle Lu, and Kevin Fan, ESL Star Teacher and Coordinator, and Ashe Zhang, the system-wide Star Teacher and Leader of STEAM Research Group made comments on the demo classes afterwards.

名师评课环节由教研组长甘旖旎老师、江宽老师和过渡级备课组长和校级枫叶名师鲁靖老师对三位老师进行点评。互动评课环节,枫叶明星教师Kevin Fan和集团枫叶名师、STEAM课题组组长张倩老师进行交叉点评。大家肯定了授课老师们在英语学科核心素养、学生自主学习、创造性和批判性思维培养以及文化意识等方面的亮点,同时也提出了一些中肯的建议。

Vicki Li, GEP Director of Hubei District shared the stories behind the activity with us. We could not come up with such creative ideas and achieve a success in this activity without the support and encouragement of all leaders, coworkers and family members.

随后,大英语中心李主任和我们分享了这次活动背后的故事,包括实验材料的选取、对学生脚手架式的引导、课堂活动设计等,这些都不离开大家的思维碰撞及授课教师家人的支持和鼓励。

As a conclusion, Mr. Zhu, the CEO and headmaster of Hubei District made comments on the activity. He spoke highly of ESL Team and thought the activity was a big top-level demo class as well, realizing the educational value of teaching complete, open, academic and diversified classes, and benefiting a lot in our teaching and educational practice.

最后,湖北大区首席执行官兼总校长朱校长对本次活动进行了点评和总结。他表示,英语团队是一个充满活力、激情、智慧、爱心、责任心和进取心的团队,他们用自己的实践深刻地诠释着精神契合。此次展示活动本身也可以视作是一堂完整、开放、学术、多元的大课堂,实现了顶层设计的课堂教育的教育价值,所有师生都收获良多,对我们未来的教育、教学工作实践都有巨大的作用。

As Mr. Zhu said in his speech, we should be the practitioners, thinkers and theorists of 4.0 version classes, and keep on improving our teaching quality in the combination of practice and cognition.

诚如朱校长所言,作为老师,我们不仅要成为4.0版启智课堂的实践者和实践家,还要成为4.0版课堂教学的思考家、思想家和理论家,在实践和认识的跨越中不断提升课堂教学。
