汪洋远方，有国古存

——记2018高中ESL英语艺术节

汪洋远方，有国古存，屹立东土，源远流长，中国便是这样的一个国家，有着令人骄傲的悠久历史与深厚文化。于是在这个美丽又欢快的日子里，他们用多种节目形式，向观者展示了国际学校的学生们眼中的中国传统文化。

There was a country far off the sea, standing on the land of the east with thousand years of profound history and culture, called China. Therefore, we chose to hold the 2018 high school ESL English Arts Festival with various kinds of shows in such a beautiful and cheerful day, showing Chinese traditional culture in the eyes of the students in Wuhan Maple Leaf International School.

这群学生有的来自预备班，接受枫叶的课程才两个月；有的来自基础级和过渡级。或许有些孩子的英语能力还不够完美，但是他们站在台上的自信和舞台表现力，深深感染了在场的每一个人。

Some of the students in Pre-Gr.10 who came to Wuhan Maple Leaf School for only two months. Some of the students in Foundations and Bridging. Even though their English ability is not perfect enough, their confidence and performance deeply touched every audience.

本场秀的主人公是由陶廷希扮演的美籍华裔。通过她回到中国来寻求文化的根源，引出了九个不同的节目。

The main character of this show is an ABC played by Skyler. Following her pace to trace different Chinese traditional culture, we enjoyed nine amazing shows.

有的学生演唱英文歌曲《唐诗》。这首歌一开篇便有风声呼啸，驼铃声阵阵，不禁让人的思绪飞到中国漠北那条黄沙漫漫，连接中外的丝绸之路，骑上悠然漫步的骆驼，在驼铃声中漫漫游走于层层峦峦的黄沙。

Some students sang an English song called Tang Poems. At the beginning of this song, we can hear the whistling wind, and ringing camel bells, which make audience think about the so called Silk Road connecting China and outside. Riding on the wandering camel, people stroll on the yellow sand with the sound of camel ring.

有的学生通过古筝和传统水袖舞展示中国舞的风韵；有的学生穿着中国的经典服饰展示中国上下五千年服饰的变化。

Some students demonstrate the charm of Chinese dance through zither and traditional sleeve dance; some students wear Chinese typical costumes to show the changes of Chinese clothing through the past five thousand years.

茶作为世界三大饮品之一，茶艺自然是中国文化的瑰宝。因此他们将茶道搬上了舞台，用英语来为大家介绍茶文化。而汉字作为迄今为止连续使用时间最长的文字，书法自然也是中国文化的明珠，所以他们将书法也搬上英语艺术节的舞台。

Tea is one of the three major drinks in the world. Tea art is naturally a treasure of Chinese culture. Therefore, they brought the tea ceremony to the stage and introduced the tea culture in English. The Chinese characters as the longest continuous use of the character so far, calligraphy is naturally the pearl of Chinese culture, therefore our students also show calligraphy on the stage of the English Art Festival.

亡羊补牢，为时不晚。像这样有哲理性的成语，习语，在中国的传统文化中还有很多。所以他们通过小话剧的形式用英语将这些故事妙趣横生的展现给大家。瓷器、中国传统节日、剪纸艺术，也被他们搬上了舞台，精彩的英语解说，给了这些传统文化新的生命。

Better late than never. There are many philosophical idioms like this in Chinese traditional culture. Therefore, they used the form of short skits to show those stories in English in a fun and interesting way. The traditional cultures like chinaware, traditional Chinese festivals, paper-cut art, are also showed on the stage. Their wonderful English commentary gave those traditional culture new life.

中国功夫神秘高深，常被好莱坞电影搬上大屏幕。于是外教将功夫和街舞结合起来，带着学生们为大家带来了精彩的功夫舞蹈的表演。

Chinese Kung Fu is full of mystery, and is often taken to the big screen by Hollywood movies. Therefore, our foreign teacher combined Kung Fu with hip-hop and brought a wonderful Kung Fu dance performance with the students.

演出的最后，是一场传统乐器的独奏表演加中西乐器合奏的大秀。悠扬的葫芦丝，婉约的古筝，铿锵的二胡等中国传统乐器配上低沉的大提琴，绵延的钢琴等西洋乐器，为我们演奏的茉莉花，沁人心脾。

At the end of the show, there was a solo performance of traditional musical instruments plus a big show of Chinese and Western musical instruments. The melodious cucurbit flute, the zither and erhu and other traditional Chinese musical instruments played together with elegant cello, piano and other Western musical instruments. The famous Chinese traditional song called Jasmine Flower impressed everyone.

通过这场中西交融的演出，这些更加崇尚西方文化的孩子找到了属于自己的民族文化自信。感谢他们带来如此精彩的演出，相信这样的经历会成为他们宝贵的回忆。也相信通过这场演出，他们在日后的国际化学习过程中，不仅会学习西方的先进文化，也会更加关注中国文化的深沉，成为一名全方位发展的国际化精英人才。

Through this show blending Chinese and Western cultures, those children who advocate Western culture more, have found their own national cultural confidence. Thanks for such a wonderful show, since I believe such experiences will be their precious memories. Moreover, they will not only learn advanced Western culture but also pay more attention to the deep Chinese culture, thus becoming an all-round development talent in the future during their study in Wuhan Maple Leaf International School.
