——大英语中心教研展示课系列报道(四) 

In the fourth demo class workshop, Janet who teaches Level 8 Pre-AP Class and Ted who teaches Level 9+ Class presented us two marvelous demo classes. Through role plays, students got a chance to be “a teacher” in Janet’s class; in Ted’s academic class, students’ language competence, critical thinking, and academic competence were fully developed, especially the note taking practice impressed everyone on site.

在大英语中心第四场教研展示课中亮相的是教授初中8AP预备班的Janet老师和初中9+级的Ted老师。Janet老师以“由一次家庭作业引发的思考”为主题,引发学生共鸣,让学生在角色扮演中体验了一把当老师的感觉;Ted老师的课满满学术范,着眼英语语言能力、批判性思维和学术能力,为学生今后升入枫高打下坚实基础。两位老师的教学笔记和备课组长的课评正是这两节精彩课堂的缩影,让我们一起来看看吧。

Janet, English Teacher of Pre-AP Class

“This is a reading lesson based on CS for Pre-AP students. The vivid pictures and figurative language in the picture book The Homework Lesson are really attractive. Most importantly, students could make connections with their daily life while reading.

这是一节基于CS新课标的阅读课。绘本The Homework Lesson形象生动的图片和幽默风趣的语言让学生很快进入到故事情节中并且自然地运用‘阅读力’中的‘联想力’将故事和自己的学习生活相联系

The lesson is focused on character analysis. By pondering the question ‘What causes Ms. Rose to become a monster?’, students compared and contrasted through analyzing characters’ spoken and body languages, facial expressions, actions and emotions so as to seek out the causes and effects of this story. What’s more, ‘The Power to Connect’ was used throughout the class, and each group showed us their different responses, solutions and reflections on the problem. I hope students can obtain deep-thinking ability and confidence from reading.

本节课侧重培养学生分析能力。通过提出‘What causes Ms. Rose to become a monster?’这一问题,引导他们通过人物语言、面部表情、肢体动作、行为和情绪等,进行思考和对比,找到矛盾爆发的原因和结果进而理解作者写作目的。此外‘联想力’贯穿整节课堂,而且每个小组都有机会向大家演绎他们解决矛盾的不同方法,以及对矛盾的反思。通过这节课,我希望学生能够在享受阅读的同时,学会边读边思考自信地表达自己的见解。

Arpit, Level 8 Teaching Group Leader

“The purpose of this class was to cover study skills, homework in particular. The way Janet delivered the objective was certainly creative. The students were able to relate to the topic very closely because Janet applied her personal experience she has had with her students. Her students have always said ‘You’re a monster’ and Janet used this to explain why in a very subtle and a kind way. Her class was very well controlled in terms of timing, group work and individual work. The presentations were especially good because the students got a chance to be creative and understand the teachers’ position from their own point of view. In the end, I sincerely believe the students thoroughly understood why Janet can be a monster at times and the main cause of that too.

家庭作业是增强学习技巧、巩固所学知识、了解自身学习情况的重要手段;Janet通过创意的阅读课向学生们传达了这一教学目的。‘老师和学生’,‘布置作业和完成作业’,这些和学生息息相关的话题一下就引发了他们的共鸣,大家自然地进行联想;Janet更以温柔、巧妙的方式向学生们解释了为什么自己有时候也变成了‘怪兽’。整堂课节凑紧凑,时间控制得当,既有个人作业又有小组合作。每个小组都有机会通过角色扮演站在老师的角度体验布置作业和学生不完成作业时的感受。我相信,学生们最后肯定能明白老师们的谆谆教导和良苦用心。

Ted, Level 9+ ESL Teacher

“The primary role of Grade 9 teachers is to prepare their students for High School and teach the skills that will help them succeed in High School. I tried to demonstrate how I teach listening, note taking, speaking and writing, all skills that our students need to improve prior to entering Grade 10.

九年级老师的主要任务是教授学生英语技能,提升学生英语综合应用能力,为他们今后升入枫高做好充分准备。在复习了之前所学的科学知识后,我引导学生:听——古埃及文明的短片,记——短片中的重要信息,说——通过笔记复述短片内容,写——完成练习并修订错误,润色文笔;而这些技能正是他们进入高中前要必须不断学习、训练和提高的。”

Sanni, Level 9 Teaching Group Leader

“‘Complete, Open, Diversified, Academic’ could be used to evaluate Ted’s class, which is strongly advocated by Maple Leaf Delicate Class. Ted successfully reached his teaching goal which is to cultivate students’ listening, speaking and writing by a series of practice in class. Meanwhile, Ted’s class is not confined to textbook, but to the whole world. As international school students, our students are supposed to have a better understanding of the background and cultures of the world. Additionally, I am quite impressed by the diversified elements in Ted’s class that involves History, Chemistry, Geography and Science as well, which aims to foster all-rounded international elites. Obviously, students accomplished their tasks amazingly under Ted’s academic guidance. All in all, I learned a lot from Ted’s class; what impressed me most is that most teachers are using English to teach English itself, but he is using English to teach students knowledge and culture.

‘完整、开放、多元、学术’这四个词语可以用来评价Ted的这堂课,这也正是枫叶大力倡导的精致课堂。通过一系列教学活动Ted成功地实现了他的教学目标,即培养学生的听说读写能力。与此同时,Ted的课堂并不局限于课本,而是面向世界。作为国际学校的学生,大家应该对世界历史和文化有更深的了解。此外,Ted课堂中历史、化学、地理等多学科的结合,令所有老师都印象深刻,它旨在培养全方位的国际精英人才。很明显,学生们在Ted的指导下,出色地完成了任务。总之,我从Ted的课上学到了很多,给我印象最深的是大部分老师是用英语教英语语言,但是Ted是用英语教学生知识和文化。

Afterwards, teachers and directors made comments on the two demo classes. The purposes of demo class workshops are to optimize class structure, improve teaching methods, and increase teaching efficiency; hope everyone has benefited from the demo class workshops this semester and get your classes well prepared for 4.0 version!

展示课后,观摩的老师和主任们对课堂进行了点评,肯定了两位老师在角色互换活动、“联想力”培养、学术性及多元化等方面的亮点,同时也提出了其他见解。课堂是教学的主阵地,优化课堂结构,改进教学方法,提高课堂效率正是大英语中心组织教研展示课的目的所在;希望每位老师在本学期的教研展示课中都有所获、有所得,让课堂尽快进入4.0版!
