Spring has arrived, and everything is beginning to awaken from its winter slumber. It is almost the best time of the year. In order to have students enjoy some of the spring weather, and also promote their understanding of Chinese traditional culture, Maple Leaf Foreign Nationals School - Wuhan organized a Kite-Flying Field Trip in Yunhu Park.

草长莺飞，拂堤杨柳，正是人间四月天。为了让武汉枫叶外籍子女学校的学生能更加享受这浓浓的春意，同样也为了让他们更加了解中国传统文化，学校全体师生在韵湖公园开展了为期半天的放风筝活动。

Kite flying is a very traditional activity and people often do it around the Qingming Festival. The field trip offered new opportunities for students and teachers to enjoy. Moreover, many parents also participated in the activity and had a great time with their children.

放风筝是一项中国传统文化活动，也让中外师生拥有了一次与风筝的美好“约会”。我们的家长也积极响应学校号召，参加了此次户外活动，与孩子们度过了难忘的亲子时光。

Students started from school and arrived at the park around 1 pm. Then with the supervision of their BC teachers, they started to fly their kites. Students had different types of kites, many of which, students made themselves.

当天下午一点到达公园后，孩子以班级为单位，在韵湖公园的中央大草坪上放飞风筝。他们手中放飞的不仅有老鹰、凤凰、燕子、蜻蜓、蝴蝶等式样的中国传统风筝，还有他们自己设计上色的DIY风筝。

Actually, preparation started two weeks ago with the guidance of our Mandarin teachers.

Preparation 1: Let us decorate the kites by ourselves. For the K-3 students, this task is not only about their artistic vision, but also a chance to develop teamwork. For the Grade 4 to Grade 9 students, it was an opportunity to demonstrate their creativity. They can draw their kites based on their own preference.

准备工作一：我的风筝我来画。这项工作对于K到三年级的孩子们来说，考验的不仅是对于色彩的感知力，更是合作能力。而对于四到九年级的学生来说，这就是他们发挥想象力和创造力的窗口。你看，他们在风筝布上挥洒创作，游刃有余。不要小看这半天的户外活动，其实孩子们早在两周之前就开始准备了。

Preparation 2: Trial flying exercises. It was a reward for the students’ hard work. It was really exciting to have the kites fly, especially, the kites made on their own.

准备工作二：风筝试飞。这是对孩子们努力创作风筝作品的回报。你看，他们奔跑着，欢笑着，放飞的不只是风筝，更是自己的心灵。

Preparation 3: Tips about the kite flying. In order to make the activity go smoothly, teachers shared knowledge about kite flying beforehand. More importantly, teachers shared with students about how to keep safe during the activity.

准备工作三：为了帮助孩子们在活动当天能够更好地放飞风筝，老师们还提前讲解了一些放风筝的技巧及可能出现的问题，并进行了相关的安全教育。

The kite-flying activity is a special event for the Mandarin class. With the cooperation of all students, parents and teachers, everyone had great time together.

本次活动是外籍中文课的特色活动之一，在全体师生和一些家长的参与下，取得了圆满的成功。孩子们都期待来年能够再趁东风放飞纸鸢。
