Maple Leaf International Middle School takes “Providing an Elite Education to All Students, Regardless of Race, Color or Nationality” as its mission, besides all the national curricula, with a focus on the all-around development of students, special emphasis in academic English development and nurturing positive personal and academic development through the ‘three good habits’ model, Maple Leaf International Middle School creates 10 features.

一、            突出的英语特色

I.         Outstanding English Feature

枫叶初中英语由中、加教师联合授课;选择枫叶初中的学生在初一上学期要求学完公立学校的英语第一、二册,下学期开始学习枫叶英语。枫叶英语教材注重阅读和写作,单词量为5000—6000个。英语科学课1500—2000个单词,而公立学校的三年单词量总计为1500—2000单词。

Students in Maple Leaf are taught by both Chinese and Canadian teachers. Students of Grade 7 should complete the 1st and 2nd English books required by public schools in the first semester, and then start learning Maple Leaf English from the second semester. Maple Leaf English emphasizes reading and writing with 5000-6000 vocabularies, 1500-2000 vocabularies for English Science. Yet, the amount of vocabularies for public school students is 1500-2000 for the entire 3 years.

Maple Leaf carries on the mode of “Graded English teaching” which includes fundamental class, parallel class and advanced class. The individualized quality education enables students to achieve all-round improvements in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

We offer Canadian Science course and introduce the original textbooks from Canada, all science teachers have overseas experiences. The course is unique in China with an aim to set a solid foundation and transition into Maple Leaf international high schools.

间周一次英语俱乐部活动,培养学生用英语的能力,开设英文戏剧、电影配音、英语海报、演讲、翻译、英文歌曲等20余种校本课程。

English club is held every two weeks for students to train their English abilities. More than 20 English clubs are offered including English drama, movie dubbing, English poster design, speech, translation and English songs, etc.

We promote various English activities to provide platforms for students to show their talents. The annual “English Art Festival” embodies students’ understanding of Chinese and western cultures with their various talents and skills. “Maple Leaf Cup” Speech Competition and “Pugongying” Competition present the unique charm of Maple Leaf English and show the profound influence of internationalization.

枫叶初中9大学科有17种课型的教学模式,均以学生为主,以学定教,注重训练,实用高效。如:理科的三环节教学模式,使学生有思考的机会、讲解的机会,展示的机会、评价的机会、质疑的机会;又如语文的 “五个一模式,品读结合,在愉悦学习中提高成绩,提升能力。

There are 17 types of class teaching mode for 9 subjects in Maple Leaf, all of which are student-oriented, practical, effective and focus on training. For example, the “three links” teaching mode for science study enables students to think, explain, display, evaluate and question; the “five steps” mode for Chinese study combines appreciation and reading, which provides a pleasant way for students to improve both their scores and abilities.

教师在这样的教学模式中扮演的角色是组织者、引导者、帮助者。枫叶教育把课堂还给了学生,课堂成为学生展示的舞台。

Teachers play the role as organizer, conductor and helper in such teaching modes. Maple Leaf Educational System lets students be the master of class and makes it a stage for students to present themselves.

III.   Curriculumization of nurturing ‘three good habits’

枫叶初中的三好习惯养成教育即学习习惯好、行为习惯好、生活习惯好。围绕养成目标开发校本课程。

Maple Leaf middle schools focus on nurturing positive personal and academic development through the ‘three good habits’ model of: positive learning skills, positive personal conduct and positive living skills.

学习习惯:学生课前主动预习,课堂积极讨论,鼓励质疑,让学生展示个人学习能力。

Learning skills: students preview positively before the class, discuss actively in the class. We encourage students to question and present their learning abilities.

行为习惯:从制度上严格要求,以育人课程展开案例教育,管理与课程结合;施以伟人精神引领,鼓励学生自我教育;学生礼仪规范,行为文明。

Personal conducts: We have strict rules and educate students with real cases. Our management is combined with education. Encourage students to educate themselves by advocating great spirits. Our students are supposed to have good personal conducts.

生活习惯:坚持节俭教育,实行一卡通限额消费,校园无货币流通;坚持自己事情独立做,学生自理自立;站队就餐,餐后送回餐盘;维护宿舍卫生,物品摆放规范,按时就寝起床,落实制度标准。

Living skills: we adhere to educate students to be prudent, and carry out “One-Card” campus card system with limiting the consumption. There is no currency circulation in the campus. Students are taught to be independent and self-management. They should line up and have meals, then bring the plates back to the designated place after the meal in the dining hall. They are also supposed to clean the dormitory with keeping personal things in order, get up and go to bed on time. The system should be implemented with strict standard.

每年入学的新生,必须要暑假结束前到校参加为期一周的军训活动。对来自不同地域的学生,进行意志品格、行为规范培养,提前适应枫叶学校国际化教育氛围,统一教育模式。

Newly-enrolled students should be present in the campus one week in advance to attend the military training when the new school year begins. It helps to cultivate students’ wills, spirits and behaviors from different places, so that they are able to adapt to the international atmosphere and teaching modes of Maple Leaf.

枫叶坚持在教学方法上,在学术研讨方面越活跃越好;在管理上,在校风校纪方面越严格越好的治校原则,以行为习惯养成教育树立优良校风。

Maple Leaf insists the principle of “In the aspects of pedagogy and academic research, the more free and active, the better; and in the aspects of management and discipline, the stricter, the better.”, to build up good school culture by habits formation education.

四、            高效的小班课堂

IV.   Effective Small Class

初中校区现有39个班,初一10个班,初二13个班,初三16个班。在校生1143人,其中外籍留学生103人。

Currently we have 39 classes in Maple Leaf Middle School---10 classes in Grade 7, 13 classes in Grade 8 and 16 classes in Grade 9. There are 1143 students in total, including 103 international students.

枫叶初中实行小班制,每班学生30人。小班教育有利于教师关注每一位学生,有利于师生及时有效沟通,有利于教师为每个学生制定个性化指导方案。

Maple Leaf Middle School carries out small class teaching with 30 students in each class. Small class teaching enables teachers to pay attention to each student and effective communicate with them effectively in time. It also offers possibilities for teachers to make student-oriented plans for each student.

在枫叶初中小班课堂上,教师面向全体学生,针对学生的特点分层教学,因材施教。

In the small classes of Maple Leaf Middle School, teachers serve all students and meanwhile, apply individualized quality education for students in different levels.

小班易于形成班级文化,班级管理难度随之降低,师生关系更为和谐,充分保证了教育公平。使学生的情感态度积极上进,学生成为最大受益人。

It is easier for small classes to form their own cultures, which decrease the difficulties of managing the class. The relationship between teachers and students is more harmonious and fair education is guaranteed. Students are more enterprising and the main beneficiaries.

五、            丰富的实践课程

V.      Abundant Practice Curricula

枫叶初中开足国家课程,增设特长课程、实践课程、活动课程等校本课程,满足学生个性学习需求。

Maple Leaf Middle School sets all national courses together with special courses, practice courses, activity courses in order to satisfy students’ personal learning needs.

枫叶教育认可学生的特长素质。各种特长或作品奖项,均可获得枫叶学分,最高可得50个学分。

MLES accepts students’ special qualities. Every kind of specialties or awards of works can get “Maple Leaf Credit Points” added up to 50 points.

每年寒假进行全体同学研究性学习活动,暑假进行社会实践活动,学校统一指导,并做评比,奖励学分。

Every winter vacation, all students participate in the “Inquiry Learning Activity”. Every summer vacation, school will guide all students to attend social activities, evaluate and award credit points to students.

活动课程   共分为五大类

There are five kinds of activity courses offered.

第一类是特长活动小组形式,如:英语配音、演讲、舞蹈、钢琴、民乐、版画、陶艺、油画、乒乓球、羽毛球、篮球、跆拳道、击剑、书法、摄影等40余项。

1. Special activity in group: English dubbing, speech, dancing, piano playing, folk music, painting, ceramic art,oil painting, playing table tennis, badminton, basketball Taekwondofencingcalligraphyphotography added up to 40 items.

第二类是系列活动,每周的纪律、卫生、文明礼貌、节约、生活区管理、食堂就餐及消费等量化评比。

2. Series of Activities: weekly management of discipline, hygiene, manners, living area, dinning and consumption in cafeteria.

第三类是根据节日、时令等开展的课程,如:母亲节、父亲节的感恩活动、万圣节、圣诞节、春游、秋游、拔河比赛、长跑比赛、跳绳比赛、中秋篝火晚会、才艺展示等。

3. Courses based on festivals and season, such asThanksgiving activities in Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, Halloween, Christmas, Spring and Autumn Outing, A tug of war, Long-distance running competition, The Mid-Autumn festival bonfire party, talent show and so on.

第四类是常规活动,如:升旗仪式、两操、主题班会、文明礼仪教育等。

4. Regular activities: Flag-raising Ceremony, exercise between classes, Class Meeting, etiquette education and so on.

第五类是临时性活动。

根据上级安排或学校临时安排的一些活动。如:团委学生会的捐赠活动、社区服务、教学开放周、图书角等。

5. Temporary activities: some activities which are set temporarily according to superior assignment or school’s assignment, such as, donation activity held by Youth League and Students Union, communityservices, Teaching Open Week, Book Corner and so on.

为了丰富学生生活,培养学生多种才能,学校鼓励学生参与学校管理,并开发有特色的课程:比如学生自行举办的《枫尚》杂志、初中英语《先锋》报、学生习作、英语作文集、随笔化作文集等。

To enrich students’ life and cultivate kinds of talents, Maple Leaf Middle School encourages students to participate in the school management, and develop characteristic courses, such as Fengshion Magazine and Mr. Maple Newspaper designed by students themselves, collections of student's workbook and excellent compositions, etc.

六、            强大的中外师资

VI.    Powerful and Professional Chinese-Foreign Teacher Group

枫叶初中教师队伍由中外教师组成。中方教师全国招聘,教职员工144人,中方任课教师人105人,外籍教师5人。博士生 1人,硕士生  6人,其余均为本科以上学历;省市优秀教师占45%以上。

Maple Leaf International Middle School’s Teacher Group contains both Chinese and Foreign teachers. Chinese teachers are hired from the whole country. The total number of working staff is 144. Among them, there are 105 Chinese teachers and 5 foreign teachers. About the educational background of teachers, there is a teacher with a doctor degree and six with a master degree, the other teachers all have bachelor degrees. More than 45% of the teachers were awarded as excellent teachers of cities or provinces.

 集团各校区有315名外籍教师,外籍教师持有加拿大BC省教师资格证书和英语强化教师资格证书.

Schools in Maple Leaf Educational System have 315 foreign teachers with teaching certificate of BC province and Intensive English teachers' qualification certificate.

枫叶各地校区吸引来自世界19个国家和地区的留学生1000多人,各国留学生以美、加、日、韩、俄罗斯为主,占枫叶学生总量的10%以上,中国学生与留学生组成了国际大家庭。

Schools in Maple Leaf Educational System attract more than 1000 international students from 19 countriesand regions. Most of the international students are from America, Canada, Japan, Korea and Russia, occupy 10% of the students’ number in Maple Leaf.

The Chinese culture and literary culture is the mainstream in the campus. Different customs and cultures are respected in Maple Leaf Educational System. 枫叶初中按照国际标准为学生提供服务。学校食堂从跨国企业采购食品,品牌质量多重保证。学校根据青少年的发育特点,实行营养配餐,中西膳食品种多样,学生自主选用。校园设有超市,方便学生日用品供应,学校实行一卡通限额消费,培养学生自理自立能力。

Maple Leaf Middle School provides services for students with the international standards. The dining hall buys food from multinational company, with both brand and quality assurance. According to the adolescents' developmental characteristics, school provides nutritional meals of both Chinese kind and western kinds. Students can choose by themselves. There is a supermarket in the campus for students to buy daily necessities. There is a spending limit of the campus card in order to cultivating students' independence and self-care ability

学生宿舍4人一间,设有淋浴、饮水机、电话和衣柜、桌椅。宿舍配备有生活老师,专职为学生提供生活指导和服务。校医负责学生的医疗指导,提供24小时服务,定期开展健康教育和体检。

Four Students share one room in the dormitory, with shower, water dispenser, telephone, wardrobe, desks and chairs. Dorm teachers provide professional guidance and services for students. School doctors are responsible for students’ health guidance with 24-hour services, and carry out health education and physical examination regularly.

枫叶初中安全制度健全,安全设施完善。交通出行安全、突发事件处理与自救、防火、防震、防疫等,全部进入安全教育课程。

Maple Leaf Middle School has a wholesome security system and facilities. Knowledge of emergency treatment and self-rescue, fire protection, earthquake protection, epidemic prevention are included in the course of safety education.

学校配有保洁人员,负责公共地域卫生清扫。班级走廊每名学生配备专门的存放书籍和衣物的柜子。

School’s cleaning staff is responsible of cleaning the public area. There is a chest for each student in thecorridor of the teaching building to put books and clothes.

寒暑假及长假,学校总务统一预购车、船、飞机票,并负责接送。

School’s general affairs office will book tickets for train, ship, or plane for students before summer and winter vacations ,long breaks, and is responsible for sending and picking them up.

枫叶初中课程与双语双学历的枫叶高中全英文加方课程对接。国家课程开足开全,特色课程优势突出,学生进步和成绩得到家长一致认可。

Courses of Dalian Maple Leaf Middle School integrate with all English Canadian courses of senior high school’s “Double language, double degree” . Middle School sets all the national courses together with special courses. Students’ progress and performance obtain wide recognition from parents.

近年来,枫叶初中学生在全国、省、市各类大赛中获得金、银、铜奖达400多人次;有4人获得国家专利。2011年枫叶初中学生代表国家参加世界中学生机器人大赛(WRO)荣获世界第七名、全国第一名;2009年在全国英语演讲比赛中获得一等奖。

In recent years, students from Dalian Maple Leaf Middle School won gold, silver, and bronze awards in the nation-wide, province-wide, and city-wide competitions for more than 400 times. 4 students have gotnational patents. In 2011, students from Dalian Maple Leaf Middle School represented China to participate in WRO, and won No.7 in the whole world, No.1 in China. Students also won the first prize in National English Speech Contest in 2009.
