英语悦读——小说类文本

阅读本应是一种享受,可是很多学生却享受不到它的快乐。没有了快乐,也就没有了兴趣,阅读逐渐变成了一项作业、一种负担。如何让学生对阅读产生兴趣,在阅读中获得快乐?如何让学生亲近阅读,习惯阅读,享受阅读?武汉枫叶国际学校推出了一系列英语悦读活动,意在让学生养成阅读的习惯,并在阅读中获得快乐。

Reading should have been a pleasure, but many students do not really enjoy it. Without happiness, there is no interest. Reading gradually becomes an assignment and a burden for the students. How to make students interested in reading and acquire happiness through reading? How to orient the students getting close to reading, getting used to reading, and enjoying reading? Therefore, Wuhan Maple Leaf International School has launched a series of happy reading activities intending to develop reading habits and making those students enjoy reading.

这一期英语悦读活动我们选定的是小说类英文文本。文章讲述了一位不善社交的女生,有一天在图书馆独自阅读,独自吃午餐的过程中,遇到一条藏在角落的龙。经过龙的开导,女生终于鼓足勇气,主动和同学说了第一句话,从而开启了她正常的学校人际交往模式。

We selected a fictional English text for this session of happy reading activities, which describes a girl who is not good at social contact. One day, the girl was reading in the library alone like usual. When she was eating her lunch by herself, she met a hidden dragon in the corner of the library. After the persuasion of the dragon, the girl finally got the courage to say hi to one of her classmates, which made a good beginning of her normal interpersonal communication in the school.

该文本比较长,学生们在拿到这篇文本的时候,遇到许多生单词是很正常的。但由于文本本身是一篇充满奇幻色彩的小故事,因此这一点小困难并没有阻挡学生们继续阅读的热情。不信你看他们满满的读书笔记,他们将不认识的单词,一一查阅,并标注在文段旁边。

The text is long. It is normal for students to encounter a lot of new words when they got this text at the beginning. However, the fiction is a story full of fantasy, and this kind of difficulty will never be a block to stop the enthusiasm of the students. If you don’t believe, you can see their reading notes. They checked the words which they didn’t know, and marked them one by one.

而细致的枫叶老师们,预先在文本后为学生们设置了难度适宜的问题,供学生回答。这些问题不是机械的问答,而是通过对人物、时间、地点、情节、主题等文段脉络而进行的设问,帮助学生梳理文本的结构。

The considerate teachers of Maple Leaf provided students with suitable questions to answer. Those questions were not mechanical Q&A, but focused on the context. All of the questions are based on the characters, setting, plot, theme, which helped students sort out the structure of that fiction reading.

梳理完阅读的文本,老师还设置了一些个性化的问题,让学生写下自己最喜欢的文段,并说明原因。有趣的篇章,加上情智类问题的设置,学生不仅锻炼了自己认知领域,还锻炼了情感领域的能力,让阅读真正变成一项愉悦的事情。

After understanding the structure of the reading, our ESL teachers also set up some emotional questions asking students to write down their favorite parts and explain the reasons. Interesting passage and emotional questions, not only can students exercised their ability in cognitive areas, but also trained their ability in the field of emotions, which truly made reading a pleasure.

在枫叶举办的系列英语悦读活动中,相信学生们通过这些选篇合理,设问科学的文本,他们将在潜移默化中不仅提升阅读能力与写作能力,还能通过阅读各种有趣的文本,丰富知识,收获喜悦。

Through the series of happy reading activities held by Maple Leaf, we believe that out students will gain joy by reading various interesting texts, and enrich their knowledge through those reasonably selected context and questions.
