My food experience in China

   摘要：我的中文名字叫唐瑞，我在中国生活了大约五年左右。我爱中国，最主要的原因是我喜欢这里的食物。在这篇文章中，我和你们分享一些我喜欢的中国美食。

   5 years ago, I moved from Canada to China. At that time I was eight years old. I was not happy leaving the only place I ever knew with the only people I ever knew. I had very mixed emotions. I was 20% excited, 20% sad about leaving my friends, 20% scared of having no friends, 20% scared with that I would not like the food, and 20% overall worried.

   译文：五年前，我随父母从加拿大迁居中国，那时我才8岁。当我得知我要去到一个完全陌生的国度时我非常不开心。应该说，我的心情很复杂，有20%兴奋，20%离开朋友们的悲伤，20%离开朋友们的恐惧，20%担心自己会不喜欢当地的食物和20%的担忧。

   China was new to me. Luckily, my family were not the only foreigners at the airport, there were a lot of foreign teachers coming to teach at Maple Leaf International School, including my dad. So to be honest, we made friends on the airplane to China.

   译文：我当时对中国一无所知。幸运的是，当我们达到机场时发现我们并不是唯一的外国面孔，还有其他很多即将在武汉枫叶国际学校执教的外国人，包括我的爸爸。我在前往中国的航班上就结交了很多朋友。

   When I arrived in our apartment, the principle had already had snacks and fruit waiting for us. So at that time, there was no problem with food at all. Within that week, we went to a noodle shop with the Vice Principle. These noodles were called Re Gan Mian, Beef  Noodle, etc. I love these noodles now, but the first time I had them, they seemed very spicy. Now I laugh at myself for being such a baby about it. My family loves, we have it almost 2-3 times a week now. There are instant noodles that are flavoured, but it was never as good.

 译文：当我到达住所时，武汉枫叶国际学校的校长先生已经准备好水果和零食恭候我们的到来。所以在彼时，食物不是个问题。后来我们和副校长先生去到一个面馆，面的品种很多，有热干面，牛肉面，兰州拉面，我都非常喜欢。当我第一次品尝时，我觉得很辣。现在回想起来，我都仍不住笑自己。我的家人也非常喜欢吃这些面食，我们每周会去2-3次。

 The next food we had was street food. We walked about 15-20 minutes and we came to an aisle that had food vendors. We had fried noodles, fried rice, potatoes, chicken, pork skewers, and dumplings. This is when I realized that every time we went to a Chinese restaurant in Canada, it wasn’t real Chinese food. I always thought that there were fortune cookies here but I actually have never had them in China. Also, in Canada at Chinese restaurants, it’s really popular to have Chicken balls. But I’ve never had them here.

 译文：武汉的街边小吃也是我的最爱。我们步行15-20分钟就可以到达一个大排档。我们喜欢吃炒面，炒饭，猪肉串，饺子等。这时我才意识到我在加拿大吃的中餐馆其实根本就不正宗。我以为中国餐厅都会有福饼，但是在武汉本地，没有一个餐馆会在饭后给我们福饼。鸡肉丸子在加拿大的中餐厅也非常流行，但我在本地根本就没吃过这种食物。

 Here is my experience with chopsticks. Again, in Canada, whenever we went to Chinese restaurants, there was an option to use chopsticks, or a fork and spoon. I always chose fork and spoon since I didn’t think that learning to use chopsticks was the hardest thing for me to eat  rice since some rice is not always stuck together. Anyways after a week or maybe two, I learned how to use chopsticks pretty well. My brother helped me sometimes too. The first time I used chopsticks was in the high school cafeteria in the summer of 2014. I used one hand for each chopstick and tried to pick food up.

   译文：我学习使用筷子的经历也非常有趣。同样，在加拿大的中餐馆，我们可以选择用叉子，勺子或者筷子。我总是选择用叉子和勺子，因为我觉得使用筷子对我来说非常困难。

特别是用筷子吃米饭的时候，因为不是所有的米饭都可以黏在一起夹起来。但在我来到中国的一两个星期之后，在哥哥的帮助下，我终于可以非常熟练的使用筷子了。我清晰的记得我第一次使用筷子是在高中食堂，我试图用一只筷子夹起食物。
