说流利中国话，写规范中国字

             ——记武汉枫叶外籍人员子女学校汉字书写比赛活动

     For foreigners, it is not easy to speak fluent Chinese, and it is even more amazing to be able to write standard Chinese characters. Chinese characters are one of the oldest characters in the world. It has an unique charm because of its block shape composed of strokes and its combination of form, sound and meaning. Chinese is one of the compulsory courses in our school. The writing of Chinese characters is also one of the scopes of students' Chinese learning.

对外国人来说，会说流利的汉语已实属不易，然而能写规范的汉字就更加让人惊叹不已了。汉字是世界上最古老的文字之一，因其由笔画构成的方块形状和集形音义于一体的特性而独具魅力。中文作为我校所有在校生的必修课之一，汉字的书写也是对学生中文学习的考察范围之一。

    In order to help students appreciate the beauty of Chinese character calligraphy and to encourage them to write standard Chinese characters, our school held a school-wide Chinese character writing competition on November 22nd.

为了让学生领略汉字书法艺术之美，激励他们写规范漂亮的中国字，我校于11月22日举行了全校范围内的汉字书写比赛。

The competition was conducted during class time. The students tried to do some neat and excellent Chinese handwriting work.

比赛是利用课堂时间进行的，学生们拿出自己事先准备好的名篇，或者老师为他们准备好的书写材料，小心翼翼地临摹着，生怕写错了一个字，一丝不苟，力求完美。

    Unexpectedly, these children, who are used to writing English letters, also wrote excellent Chinese characters. This is due to their daily hard work.

让人没想到的是，这群平时写惯了英文字母的孩子们，写出的汉字也是可圈可点。这都得益于他们平时的书写积累和刻苦训练。

The results of the competition were voted by the students, and ten best works and thirteen excellent works were selected.

本次比赛的结果由学生们投票选出，共决出最佳硬笔书法作品10名和优秀作品13名。

At the Presenting Assembly on Nov.30^th, the principal Mr. Laing presented certificates to the students.

在本周五的月末学生展示活动上，校长Mr. Laing为获奖的同学们颁发了获奖证书。
